Monster Energy’s Tryon Woodley Scores an Impressive Submission Victory Over Darren Till and Retains His Title

Monster Energy’s Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley defends his welterweight title against Darren Till in the main event with a brutal and decisive victory via second round submission at UFC 228 inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

DALLAS (PRWEB) September 10, 2018

Monster Energy’s Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley defends his welterweight title against Darren Till in the main event with a brutal and decisive victory via second round submission at UFC 228 inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Despite the welterweight champion coming in as the betting underdog, Woodley found his former aggression and dominance much like his past destruction of Robbie Lawler with a sensational win over unbeaten Till, which finally earned the quiet welterweight king the respect he has long deserved.

Woodley proved he is the best welterweight in the division and arguably the greatest of all time with a dominating first round against a much bigger opponent nicknamed “The Guerilla”, landing a solid right strike, multiple flurries and ground and pound. Till was out worked and out hustled throughout the round and literally offered no offense, while fans speculated it was a feeling out round, or the Englishman was simply finding his range for the next four to come.

But five rounds would not be as Tyron caught and dropped Till with his patented power right hand the first time Till came at Woodley with intent. Woodley established top control and showcased his wrestling pedigree, controlling the top position while raining down multiple damaging power-elbows upon the helpless Till. While a TKO seemed eminent, Woodley’s veteran octagon experience was on display and he recognized the bloodied, but durable Till may not succumb and craftily slipped in a D’arce choke at 4:19 of the second round for a tap-out submission.

If silencing the haters who have discredited, if not disparaged Woodley for boring performances, or fighting to safely in the past was not satisfying enough, Woodley’s coach Din Thomas entered the Octagon and presented Woodley with his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt after the unanticipated submission.

Next up for Woodley could be against Colby Covington based on their history, but at this stage Woodley commented, “I don’t believe he deserves my platform right now.” If the fight does happen will Woodley finally silence his non-stop chatter?

Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley is amongst Monster Energy’s elite UFC team along with Conor “The Notorious” McGregor, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Dominick “Dominator” Cruz, Chris ‘The All American’ Weidman, Daniel Cormier , Paige VanZant, Max Holloway, Yair Rodriquez, Jessica Rose, Li Jinliang, Gökhan Saki and Rose Namajunes.

The Universality Of Shame

$

Shame on you. These three simple words can have devastating effect on an individual’s psyche.

But why is that? How is the feeling of shame generated, and what is its purpose? Some theorists argue that feeling shame is a pathology, a condition to be cured. Others dismiss it as a useless, ugly emotion.

A research team at the University of Montreal and UC Santa Barbara’s Center for Evolutionary Psychology (CEP), however, suggest something altogether different. Shame, they argue, was built into human nature by evolution because it served an important function for our foraging ancestors.

Living in small, highly interdependent bands, the researchers explain, our ancestors faced frequent life-threatening reversals, and they counted on their fellow band members to value them enough during bad times to pull them through. So being devalued by others — deemed unworthy of help — was literally a threat to their survival. Therefore, when considering how to act, it was critical to weigh the direct payoff of a potential action (e.g., how much will I benefit by stealing this food?) and against its social costs (e.g., how much will others devalue me if I steal the food — and how likely is it that they will find out?) became critical.

The researchers hypothesized that the intensity of anticipated shame people feel is an internally generated prediction of just how much others will devalue them if they take a given action. Moreover, if this feature was part of human nature, it should be observed everywhere — in every culture.

To test for universality, they selected a linguistically, ethnically, economically and ecologically diverse set of cultures scattered around the world. In these 15 traditional, small-scale societies, the researchers found that the intensity of shame people feel when they imagine various actions (stealing, stinginess, laziness, etc.) accurately predicts the degree to which those actions would lead others in their social world to devalue them. Their findings appear in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

**The Function of Feelings**

“In a world without soup kitchens, police, hospitals or insurance, our ancestors needed to consider how much future help they would lose if they took various actions that others disapprove of but that would be rewarding in other ways,” said lead author Daniel Sznycer, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Montreal. “The feeling of shame is an internal signal that pulls us away from acts that would jeopardize how much other people value our welfare.”

Noted Leda Cosmides, a professor of psychology at UC Santa Barbara, co-director of the CEP and a co-author of the paper, “For this to work well, people can’t just stumble about, discovering after the fact what brings devaluation. That’s too late. In making choices among alternative actions, our motivational system needs to implicitly estimate in advance the amount of disapproval each alternative action would trigger in the minds of others.”

A person who did only what others wanted would be selected against, the authors point out, because they would be completely open to exploitation. On the other hand, a purely selfish individual would be shunned rapidly as unfit to live with in this highly interdependent world — another dead end.

“This leads to a precise quantitative prediction,” said John Tooby, a professor of anthropology at UC Santa Barbara, CEP co-director and a coauthor of the paper. “Lots of research has shown that humans can anticipate personal rewards and costs accurately, like lost time or food. Here we predicted that the specific intensity of the shame a person would anticipate feeling for taking an action would track how much others in their local world would negatively evaluate the person if they took that specific act.

“The theory we’re evaluating,” he continued, “is that the intensity of shame you feel when you consider whether to take a potential action is not just a feeling and a motivator; it also carries vital information that seduces you into making choices that balance not only the personal costs and benefits of an action but also its social costs and benefits. Shame takes the hypothetical future disapproval of others, and fashions it into a precisely calibrated personal torment that looms the closer the act gets to commission or discovery.”

**A Universal Human Quality**

According to the authors, shame — like pain — evolved as a defense. “The function of pain is to prevent us from damaging our own tissue,” said Sznycer. “The function of shame is to prevent us from damaging our social relationships, or to motivate us to repair them if we do.”

As a neural system, shame inclines you to factor in others’ regard alongside private benefits so the act associated with the highest total payoff is selected, the authors argue. A key part of the argument is that this neurally based motivational system is a part of our species’ biology. “If that is true, we should be able to find this same shame-devaluation relationship in diverse cultures and ecologies all around the world, including in face-to-face societies whose small scale echoes the more intimate social worlds in which we think shame evolved,” Sznycer noted.

To test this hypothesis, the team collected data from 15 traditional small-scale societies in four continents. The people in these societies speak very different languages (e.g., Shuar, Amazigh, Icé-tód), have diverse religions (e.g., Hinduism, Shamanism), and make a living in different ways (e.g., hunting, fishing, nomadic pastoralism). If shame is part of universal, evolved human nature, the research should find that the emotion closely tracks the devaluation of others, for each specific act, in each community; but if shame is more akin to a cultural invention like agriculture or the alphabet, present in some places but not others, they should find wide variation from place to place in this relationship. Indeed, anthropologists have long proposed that some cultures are guilt-oriented, some are fear-oriented, and some are shame-honor.

Yet, the authors found the predicted relationships everywhere they tested. “We observed an extraordinarily close match between the community’s negative evaluation of people who display each of the acts or traits they were asked about and the intensities of shame individuals anticipate feeling if they took those acts or displayed those traits,” Sznycer said. “Feelings of shame really move in lockstep with the values held by those around you, as the theory predicts.”

Further studies, he added, have demonstrated that it is specifically shame — as opposed to other negative emotions — that tracks others’ devaluation. “Moral wrongdoing is not necessary,” said Sznycer. “In other research we showed that individuals feel shame when others view their actions negatively, even when they know they did nothing wrong.”

Of interesting note, anticipated shame mirrored not only the disapproval of fellow community members, but also the disapproval of (foreign) participants in each of the other societies. For example, the shame expressed by the Ik forager-horticulturalists of Ikland, Uganda, mirrored not only the devaluation expressed by their fellow Iks, but also the devaluation of fishermen from the Island of Mauritius, pastoralists from Khövsgöl, Mongolia, and Shuar forager-horticulturalists of the Ecuadorian Amazon. What’s more, shame mirrored the devaluation of foreigners living nearby in geographic or cultural space just as well as it mirrored the devaluation of foreigners living farther and farther away — another indication of shame’s universality. New US Movie ‘Active Measures’ Is Actively Deceptive About Russia
 – OpEd

“The President is a puppet of Vladimir Putin!” That sums up the revelations of the just-released blockbuster movie “Active Measures.” It debuted in theaters in New York and Los Angeles.

This couldn’t be more timely as we approach the US November midterm elections. We’ve seen Republican candidates get a real boost from a Trump endorsement in recent special elections. Will Republican candidates be propelled to victory in November on the strength of Trump’s support?

If Trump really is a puppet of Putin’s do we want to let that happen? Are we headed for another “attack on America’s democracy” in the wake of what happened in 2016? This could have very serious consequences.

As I watched Active Measures from start to finish I had a couple of pointed reactions. The first was to observe the apparent strength of conviction the cast of characters seems to have regarding the movie’s avowed theme. The second was to realize that the strength of evidence they produced pales by comparison.

Active Measures has a star-studded cast. It includes former presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and the late John McCain, former US envoy to Moscow Michael McFaul, the former presidents of Georgia and Estonia, and a host of others. Each appears in the role of an interview subject. There’s no host asking questions — just the commentaries and quips from the interviewees alone.

Now, some of you may wonder just what the movie title Active Measures means. It is a term I first heard from a former State Department intelligence official. It was coined during the Cold War era to describe a variety of Soviet political warfare activities that included propaganda, disinformation, and others.

Active measures is definitely a pejorative term, much in keeping with the movie’s theme.

Indeed what is that theme? According to the International Movie Database (IMDb): “Russian president Vladimir Putin attacks the 2016 American Presidential Election in collaboration with The Trump Campaign.”

That theme is in effect a premise for the film’s implied and explicit conclusions. The theme has been all over the news throughout the past two years. You can’t miss it. As a media business analyst and senior fellow at American University in Moscow I’ve devoted a lot of attention to examining that premise and searching for factual confirmations. As a result I was quite interested to learn what Active Measures had to offer. Is there indeed convincing proof that Trump is Putin’s puppet?

One fact stood out clearly. This is a movie that seems intent on convincing audiences of its premise. But it doesn’t offer much proof of anything.

For instance, Clinton says of Putin, “He wants to be the richest man in the world.” How in the world does she know that? I’ve never seen any assertion of that goal by Putin. What’s the point of Hillary’s comment? It’s simply a hyperbolic disparagement I think.

Then there is McCain’s comparison of Putin with the rise of Hitler. McCain was a widely lionized senator, respected by many. But he had a long history of making vacuous, diminishing statements about Putin. He could have been more constructive if he had focused on reality-based problems with the Russian president in the US-Russia relationship. Instead McCain just joined Clinton with more hyperbolic disparagement.

That approach to things is more worthy of mindless bar room banter than of honest and serious discourse. McCain had acknowledged that he made some mistakes during his career. His negative fixation over Russia seems to have been one of them

.

Other characters in the movie touched on issues that are very well known to me. For starters there’s a comment by Jonathan Winer. He brought up the 2006 polonium poisoning death of Alexander Litvinenko. Winer said it was a “murder that was very directly linked to Russia.” That alludes to the long-running mainstream narrative that Putin was behind it all.

But that is a false narrative. I meticulously studied the Litvinenko case at the behest of the International Federation of Journalists. Subsequently I wrote two books about it. They document that the popularly believed narrative is actually a magnificently perpetuated hoax orchestrated by a political enemy of Putin’s. I don’t know whether Putin had anything to do with Litvinenko’s death. But my books prove that the people who made the case against Putin were lying.

What did Winer know about the Litvinenko case? According to the State Department he’s a former official from its Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. He was State’s special envoy for Libya.

Perhaps more interesting is information from a February 2018 Weekly Standard article. It reports that Winer had been “old pals” with Christopher Steele, the guy of Trump Dossier fame. That’s the document that plays a key role in the ongoing Robert Mueller Russiagate probe.

The Weekly Standard article claims Winer and Steele were at one time “both in the business of selling ‘business intelligence,’ much of it involving Russia.”

More recently, according to CNN, Winer was “the man who gave the [State Department] the Steele dossier.” The document has since been largely discredited and tied to the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.

Next up is the matter of Russia’s media problems. This dates back to the early days of Putin’s presidency. He was widely accused of clamping down on the press freedom that had been nurtured under Yeltsin.

In Active Measures former State Department official Daniel Fried claimed that “Putin started forcing the independent media to knuckle under, putting in state control, turning them into propaganda outfits.”

The only problem with Fried’s claims is that there had been no real press freedom for Putin to have clamped down on. Right from the start Yeltsin had instituted laws that made it practically impossible for media companies to operate profitably and be self supporting. That thrust the outlets into the clutches of government officials and oligarchs. They put money into the loss-making media companies in return for the opportunity to color the news to their own favor.

The media were “propaganda outfits” right from the start. How could Fried have missed all that?

At one time he was the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. Why, he had even been on the staff of the National Security Council and a special assistant to president Bill Clinton!

If Fried got the press freedom issue so wrong, one wonders what other issues he bollixed. Well actually he tells of another in Active Measures. After misrepresenting the press freedom quagmire so badly he goes on to claim that Putin started “going after independent journalists.” Fried said, “They ended up dead.”

That’s an allusion to another mainstream myth about Putin, It is that when Putin became president, journalists who wrote unfavorably about Russia’s president suddenly were becoming victims of murder.

The facts speak differently, however. The Committee to Protect Journalists maintains statistics on journalists murdered in the line of duty. Those stats show there was actually a precipitous drop in the number of journalist murders when Putin took over. The reality is the opposite of what Fried contended in Active Measures. And there’s no evidence that any of the murders were tied to silencing oppositional voices.

What’s going on here? This Active Measures cast of characters is beginning to look more like a rogues’ gallery.

Some of their assertions seem to belie a level of confusion. That’s what I saw in the comments of former ambassador Michael McFaul. Speaking about the alleged 2016 election hacking he said “They stole the data. Let’s be clear about it… This is theft. If the Russians walked into my house and took something out, this is exactly the same thing.”

But if Russians had walked into McFaul’s house and walked out with, say, his TV there would be no more TV in the house. It would be gone. With a data breach, the data owner still has the data.

What’s lost is the secrecy of the data, not the data itself. I don’t want to minimize the significant problems that can emanate from a data breach. But it surely is not “exactly the same thing” as McFaul contended.

A more consequential matter is that of Putin’s KGB background. Past reports had often repeated McCain’s line, “I looked into his eyes and saw three letters: a K, a G and a B.”

Now Active Measures says this about Putin’s KGB past: “His role in the KGB was to support Russian intelligence officers living under assumed identities under deep cover inside the United States and developing active measures to impact the policies of the United States.”

That is a quote from Jeremy Bash, identified as CIA chief of staff 2009-2011. I could find no evidence that Bash has any particular Russia expertise. So I sought to examine his comment from a security service point of view. To do that I called upon a colleague in whom I have considerable trust. He has extensive expertise both in security matters and Russian issues. I showed him Bash’s statement and requested his analysis.

Here is my distillation of what I was told:

–As a non-Russia expert in the CIA it is unlikely that Bash would be privy to who was doing what in the KGB during the 80s.

–Putin’s actual role in the KGB was extremely insignificant, virtually that of a clerk assigned to a backwater posting in Dresden, East Germany.

–As to running an American operation, Putin couldn’t even speak English at the time; his specialty was Germany. Putin didn’t learn English until late into his presidency.

–Upon returning from his Dresden assignment Putin was fired by the KGB. It is well known that agents involved with foreign deep cover operations can neither be allowed nor forced to leave the service irrespective of their personal qualities or performance.

–Russia’s undercover operations are known to be run directly out of Moscow, and not from a remote outpost such as Dresden. For twenty years General Yuri Drozdov was understood to be the boss of the foreign deep cover work, certainly not Putin.

Active Measures presents even more specious, factually unsupported stories to advance the movie’s primary premise. For example, there is the matter of the 2016 Republican platform with regard to Ukraine. There’s also the mysterious death in Washington DC of the head of Russia’s English language broadcasting arm. These and other vignettes follow the same pattern of deception as the stories above that I examined in depth.

I’m not saying that every word spoken by cast members is untrue. But the ultimate impact of all the words is to mislead the audience to a conclusion that is at odds with the truth.

I was a high school student during the Soviet era. And I recall in a course titled “comparative government” the teacher defining propaganda this way: It is the presentation of half truths and fabrications with the goal of misleading an audience toward a false conclusion.

That’s exactly what I found in Active Measures. Cast members state unfounded premises as if they are facts. Then they draw conclusions based on those premises. Audience members unable to tag the premises as false will likely be drawn into accepting the conclusions without realizing they’ve been hoodwinked.

That’s the danger presented by Active Measures.

The false stories form a specious mosaic that can then be used to validate additional false stories. It’s the perpetuation of misinformation.

Aside from the Russia-specific content, Active Measures also deals with Donald Trump’s business activities and finances. That’s an area in which I have no expertise. As a result, I don’t know whether or not the information presented by cast members is honest.

Taken by itself I might even have had an inclination to believe some of it. But having seen the deception employed by the cast regarding Russian issues, I’m inclined to seriously question anything that they say.

I’m not suggesting that all cast members are liars. There may be some outright liars within their midst. But there are others who simply have blindly adopted beliefs based on misinformation that they’ve heard from others. And there are also cast members who have publically become so personally tied to the mainstream false narratives they espouse that they lack the courage to back away from the fraud. Perhaps even some were innocently drawn into participating in the film without realizing what they were getting into.

But whatever brought these individuals to this course of deceit, I think they certainly should not be given a presumption of honesty or reliability. Their words deserve extreme scrutiny.

Here are the cast names and affiliations as presented in Active Measures:

Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State (2008-2013): Toomás Hendrik Ilves, President of Estonia (2006-2016); Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia (2004-2013): Senator John McCain, Senate Armed Services Committee; Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Senate Judiciary Committee; Congressman Eric Swalwell, House Intelligence Committee; Steven Hall, CIA Chief of Russia Operations (1985-2013); Michael McFaul, US Ambassador to Russia (2012-2014); Nina Burleigh, Journalist and Newsweek Correspondent; Craig Unger, Journalist and Vanity Fair Contributing Editor; James Woosley, Director of Central Intelligence (1993-1995); John Mattes, Bernie Sanders Organizer, Investigative Journalist; Richard Fontaine, President, Center for New American Security; Michael Isikoff, Author, Russian Roulette; John Dean, White House Counsel to President Nixon (1970-1973); Dr. Herb Lin, Director Cyber Policy and Security, Stanford University; Clint Watts, Former FBI Special Agent on Joint Terrorism Task Force; Evan McMullin, US 2016 Presidential Candidate, CIA Operative (1999-2010): Dr. Alina Polyakova, Brookings Institution, Foreign Policy Fellow, Center on the United States and Europe; John Podesta, Chair, Hillary for America, Founder, Center for American Progress; Jonathan Winer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Law Enforcement (1994-1999); Jeremy Bash, CIA Chief of Staff (2009-2011), Pentagon Chief of Staff (2011-2013); Ambassador Daniel Fried, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs (2005-2009); Scott Horton, International Law and Human Rights Attorney, Columbia Law School; Heather Conley, Kremlin Playbook Author, Center for Strategic and International Studies; Steven Pifer, US Ambassador to Ukraine (1997-2000), US Department of State (1978-2004); Asha Rangappa, FBI Special Agent on Counterintelligence (2002-2005), Associate Dean of Yale Law; Molly McKew, Information Warfare Expert; Alexandra Chalupa, DNC Consultant

.

So what does this all add up to?

Is Active Measures truly actively deceptive about Russia?

Of course it is.

And the irony of it all is that Active Measures is itself an actual exemplar of active measures.

What do you think about that! Reported by Eurasia Review 6 hours ago.

F1 2019: Ferrari signs Leclerc, Raikkonen to Sauber

Sauber's Charles Leclerc and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen will swap seats next year

Rising star secures top F1 seat alongside Vettel, with former champ Raikkonen making shock return to Sauber

Rising Formula 1 star Charles Leclerc will replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari next season – with the Finn making a shock return to Sauber.

Monaco driver Leclerc, 20, has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2016, and has long been linked with the second seat at the team alongside Sebastian Vettel. Leclerc described the move to Ferrari by saying that “dreams do come true”.

Leclerc won the GP2 Series title in 2017, and has raced in F1 this season with Sauber. He has claimed five points finishes so far, including sixth in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The surprise news is that Raikkonen, the 2007 world champion, will effectively swap seats with Leclerc. The 38-year-old has signed a two-year deal to race for Sauber, which uses Ferrari engines and had Alfa Romeo sponsorship, and will return to the team he made his grand prix debut with in 2001.

“Signing Kimi Raikkonen as our driver represents an important pillar of our project, and brings us closer to our target of making significant progress as a team in the future,” said Sauber team boss Frédéric Vasseur.

“Kimi’s undoubted talent and immense experience in Formula 1 will not only contribute to the development of our car, but will also accelerate the growth and development of our team as a whole.”

Raikkonen finished in sixth place on his F1 debut for Sauber in the 2001 Australian Grand Prix, and raced for the Swiss squad for a single season before joining McLaren in 2002.

He moved to Ferrari in 2007, winning the drivers' title in his first season with the team, before taking a sabbatical from F1 after the 2009 season. After returning to F1 with Lotus in 2012, he rejoined Ferrari in 2014.

Raikkonen has provided able back-up to Vettel, but hasn’t won a race since 2013 – although he narrowly missed out in the recent Italian Grand Prix, only losing the lead to Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton late in the race.

The latest in a string of major driver moves for 2019 means that Mercedes is the only leading squad that will have an unchanged line-up next season, with Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas both returning. Red Bull will run Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly, Renault has signed Daniel Ricciardo to join Nico Hülkenberg, and McLaren has an all-new line-up of Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz.

Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XC: Everything we know so far

Apple will host an event on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater in the company's Cupertino, California, campus, where it is widely expected to unveil new iPhone models. Analysts believe Apple plans to release three new smartphones this year, including one with a larger display than previous models. Analysts also expect Apple to release an iPhone with an edge-to-edge display similar to the iPhone X but using less-costly LCD screen technology.

Apple's event invitation made heavy use of the color gold, fueling speculation on social media that the company plans to launch a gold-colored successor to the iPhone X, which was made available only in silver and gray last year.

Apple has for years released its new phone models in the second week of September and often updates other product lines such as the Apple Watch at the event. The company has already given base-model iPads and some MacBook laptops an update this year as well.

Here’s what we know about the three rumoured iPhones - iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XC:

*iPhone XS*

Likely to be called the iPhone XS, it will be the successor to the current iPhone X, and feature a new gold colour. Interestingly, Apple's event invite also features the same gold colour, thereby confirming that the iPhone will feature the new gold and black blend.

Reports also reveal that the next-in-line iPhone will continue to feature the bezel-less display and have a larger sibling featuring a 6.5-inch display while the base version will be at 5.8-inch. Both the models are likely to be called iPhone XS with one featuring an OLED display.

*iPhone XS Max*

The iPhone Xs Max will essentially replace the 'Plus' models in the previous iterations. The new iPhones will feature OLED displays and a new gold finish on the stainless steel sides. There will also be a cheaper LCD version. In terms of specifications, the upcoming iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max will include 4GB of RAM, A12 chip under the hood, and for the first time, support for dual SIM in the larger model.

*iPhone XC*

Adding to the pool of revelations, a cheaper variant of the upcoming iPhone XS, called iPhone XC, has also been recently spotted online. A leaker who goes by the name LeakSpinner has posted a photo of the purported device on SlashLeaks. Based on the image, we could see the iPhone in red, white, and blue colour choices. Past rumors indicate that the iPhone XC would be a more affordable version of the iPhone XS and come with a single camera and a 6.1-inch LCD display. In the images, the phone features a rather basic design with the presence of a dual SIM slot.

According to 9to5Mac, GBH Insights analyst Daniel Ives, there is ‘a massive iPhone upgrade opportunity’ in the making…’ He said, “The new phones “will help capture the underlying demand [for] upgrades among customers that have decided to bypass the … cycle this time around, with price points and features that catalyze fence-sitting iPhone customers onto their next smartphone.”

For Apple, China is particularly a ‘big opportunity’. It is believed that almost 100 million iPhone customers in China and about 60 million to 70 million of them are due for an upgrade over the next 18 months.

*Investor news                                                                             11 September 2018**Sennheiser Communications evolves in new set-ups*

Copenhagen/September 11, 2018 – William Demant Holding A/S (William Demant) and Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG (Sennheiser) see great opportunities lying ahead in all three business segments of Sennheiser Communications A/S (Sennheiser Communications). To be able to fully capture these opportunities, both parties have the wish to dedicate their focus on different business segments with full end-to-end responsibility. Therefore, William Demant and Sennheiser have decided to end their joint venture and let the business segments evolve in different set-ups. While the business segments of Enterprise Solutions and Gaming headsets will evolve as an independent business as part of the William Demant Group, the business segment of Mobile Music headsets will be part of the Sennheiser Consumer business in the future. The separation happens in good faith and the partners intend to continue their cooperation where synergies and opportunities exist.

- The joint venture has been a successful journey for both partners, during which we have collaborated on the development of new technology and have seen an ongoing growth of market shares. All three business segments continue to have tremendous potential for the future, said Daniel Sennheiser, co-CEO at Sennheiser to which Søren Nielsen, President & CEO at William Demant, adds - As the market dynamics have changed during the years and full end-to-end dedication is needed including a focused R&D approach, the time is now right to continue - each of us - in our own focused directions.

For more than 15 years, the joint venture Sennheiser Communications, a 50/50 split ownership between Sennheiser and William Demant, has successfully developed and promoted Sennheiser branded portfolios of Enterprise Solutions, Gaming and Mobile Music headsets. The end of the joint venture formally implies a cash free split of ownership structure.

The separation is planned for January 1, 2020. Until then, the company Sennheiser Communications will continue its business while Sennheiser and William Demant will prepare the separation in close partnership in order to ensure a seamless and smooth transition for employees, customers, suppliers and partners.

Going forward, William Demant will take over the business segments of Enterprise Solutions (CC&O) and Gaming including the distribution, which has been with Sennheiser until now. The new entity under William Demant will continue the license agreement with the Sennheiser brand for the Enterprise Solutions and Gaming portfolios. Throughout 2018 and 2019, profit sharing of Sennheiser Communications between Sennheiser and William Demant will remain as today.

- For William Demant this clearly shows our strong commitment to support the future growth in the two attractive business segments of Enterprise Solutions and Gaming. It is our intention to take the already existing global distribution set-up to a next level with a dedicated approach and we believe that R&D synergies within our Group will become even stronger going forward with the emerging trend of intelligent audio, low power connectivity and small form factors, said President & CEO Søren Nielsen, William Demant.

For Sennheiser, the integration of the mobile music business segment is a further consequent step in focusing on its core competencies and fostering its independency as a family-owned company.

- Sennheiser will further tap into the growing market of mobile music headsets with a clear focus on innovative “Smart & Connected” audio experiences. Our Consumer Division will become even stronger as all necessary competencies will be concentrated here. Within our Professional Division, the Business Communications segment – alongside wireless microphone technology – will continue to be a stronghold with attractive growth potentials ahead. The 3D audio technology AMBEO will also remain a crucial part in developing our future product portfolio within both the Consumer and the Professional Division, said Dr. Andreas Sennheiser, co-CEO at Sennheiser.

Current President of Sennheiser Communications Jeppe Dalberg-Larsen will continue to spearhead Sennheiser Communications during the transition period and William Demant’s new company after the separation:

- At Sennheiser Communications we have managed to build a global business having some of the finest people in the sound industry, with amazing double-digit growth rates year after year. I look forward to spearheading this continuation of passion for sound excellence in our new set-up. We see great potential in the market and with William Demant’s willingness to support our endeavours we will be equipped to accelerate growth, take on new markets and act more agile as an independent company. The strong R&D backbone will continue to fuel our innovation and thus enable us to bring strong premium audio concepts to the market, said Jeppe Dalberg-Larsen.
