Critics hail Daniel Radcliffes latest stage turn

LONDON (AP) - Daniel Radcliffe has won magical reviews for his latest stage role as a disabled Irish dreamer in Martin McDonaghs "The Cripple of Inishmaan." The former "Harry Potter" star plays the title role in a Michael Grandage-directed production of McDonaghs scabrous tragicomedy at Londons Noel Coward Theatre. First staged in 1996, the play is a raucously dark take on Irish identity from the writer-director of plays including "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" and movies "In Bruges" and "Seven Psychopaths." Radcliffe stars as Billy, a 17-year-old orphan on a remote island in 1930s Ireland, who sees a chance of escape from a life of boredom and mockery when an American film crew arrives on a neighboring island to shoot the film "Man of Aran." The 23-year-old actor had to master the parts taxing physical demands, its emotional shifts _ and a strong Irish accent. The Guardians Michael Billington said Wednesday the performance proved that Radcliffe "is a fine stage actor with a gift for playing social outsiders," while Times of London critic Libby Purves praised his "still, melancholy intensity and resolve." In The Independent newspaper, Paul Taylor hailed Radcliffes "honest, sensitive, unshowy performance" _ though he said "Radcliffe may not have the most convincing Irish accent in Grandages vividly quirky ensemble.""Unlike many child stars, Daniel Radcliffe has grown up gracefully," said the Daily Telegraphs Charles Spencer, who thought "the former boy wizard lends this disconcertingly cruel play what little heart it has." Radcliffe has taken on a series of challenging stage and screen roles as hes moved on from a decade as J.K. Reported by MyNorthwest.com 5 hours ago.

James Murphy's repertoire of collaborations has been broad over the past year-- Kathleen Hanna, Arcade Fire, Pulp, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the list goes on. Now, he's expanding into a whole different realm. Vulture notes that Murphy is working on original music for a Broadway production, a first for the former LCD Soundsystem leader.

The show is Mike Nichols' new stage adaptation of Harold Pinter's 1978 play Betrayal, which uses reverse chronology to document the events of a wife's affair. It stars Rachel Weisz (Oz the Great and Powerful, The Bourne Legacy) and Daniel Craig (aka James Bond) and begins previews October 1 with an opening date of October 27, according to Vulture. Pro-Gun Daniel Musso Tased by Police for Heckling Gun Control Rally (Video) Pro-gun advocate Daniel Musso was tackled, tasered and arrested by police at a gun control rally on Tuesday after he repeatedly heckled speaker John Cantin outside the state capitol in Concord, New Hampshire (video below).

The gun control rally was presented by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which supports limiting magazine size for military-style assault weapons and requiring criminal background checks for gun buyers.

As Cantin spoke, Musso yelled: “Why are you talking about this? You’re not the truth!” reported WMUR-TV.

According to the Concord Monitor, Musso kept asking Cantin what kind of gun was used to kill his daughter in 2009: “A pellet gun, a machine gun, what kind of gun, sir?”

The heckling continued for several more minutes until Musso was asked to move by police officers, but he placed his hand on a cop and a struggle ensued with three officers who eventually tasered him to the ground.

The gun control rally brought out about 60 pro-gun counter-protesters openly carrying firearms, but Cantin told the Union Leader: “They just weakened their cause and strengthened ours."

“People just need to be more respectful, don’t get so emotional about this,” Cantin told WMUR-TV. “Everybody has the right to their own opinion. We’re all Americans. We should be able to express that.”

For artists faced with the dilemma of traveling with the supplies they need to ply their craft, Daniel Smith has introduced various products to conveniently solve this common problem. Along with these products, Daniel Smith also offers advice from professional artists explaining how they go about bringing their work with them on the road.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 19, 2013

Whether for work or pleasure artists face similar difficulties when trying to bring their paints and supplies on trips. Keeping everything neat and tidy is easier said than done, but clean and efficient travel is part of the game with Daniel Smith painting kits. Watercolor, acrylic and oil paints can wreak havoc on luggage, but when they are carefully stowed in a travel box from Daniel Smith nasty spills go from a traveling artist’s worst nightmare to a non-factor.

Getting out into the world and painting landscapes, buildings and other places of significance can be a rewarding experience. However, many times artists find themselves backpacking across rough terrain to reach their intended destinations. Hiking up mountains, through forests and around lakes leads to accidents that in the past could only have been prevented by minor miracles. Now, with Daniel Smith paint kits artists are given the opportunity to be restricted only by their bodies’ physical limitations. Daniel Smith also provides information from artists who have mastered the technique of traveling with their materials. Those articles may be found along with the painting kits on the product page above and in Daniel Smith’s Watercolor Tips, Tutorials and Articles section.

Artists never want to find themselves in a situation where their supplies have been compromised, and they just spent five hours backpacking across the wilderness. It’s Daniel Smith’s hope that the paint kits and information together provide artists with the necessary tools to make their trips a resounding success. Artists traveling by foot, car or plane don’t have to fear that their paints are presently being absorbed into their personal belongings, as long as they have taken the right precautions.
