Magdelena Luczak and Mariusz Krezolek Convicted Of Starving Daniel Pelka To Death

A mother and stepfather are looking at life sentences in the U.K. for starving a 4-year-old schoolboy to death. Daniel Pelka became a “broken bag of bones” after months of abuse by Magdelena Luczak and Mariusz Krezolek. Jurors cried during the couple’s trial as they heard how Pelka was subjected to “unimaginable cruelty.”

The young boy’s murder is now being reviewed by Coventry's Safeguarding Children Board. The board is examining why social services and police did not become involved after staff at Coventry's Little Heath Primary School saw that Pelka had two black eyes and that his neck was bruised.

Neither Krezolek nor Luczak showed any obvious emotion as the guilty verdicts were handed down after only four hours of deliberation. They had been claiming that they weren’t guilty of murder and that Pelka had an eating disorder but obviously the jury didn’t agree, The Telegraph reported. 

Text messages that were used as evidence during the trial revealed that the pair worked as a team to abuse Pelka and also showed that they elected not to call an ambulance as the boy lay dying with more than 20 separate injuries. Krezolek and Luczak blamed each other for Pelka's death during the trial.

Eryk Pelka, Daniel's biological father, said: "It's a great tragedy that such a little angel had to leave this world. “I hope that those responsible will be punished severely."
