A down-on-his-luck bear who makes a living busking as a one-man band gets shaken down by ursine police. Mice live underground, in a bizarre dental economy, where every mouse aspires to a career in orthodontia. Bears are more like humans, owning stores, tucking their kids in at night and screaming at the sight of a mouse. With sharp writing by Daniel Pennac, Celestine in particular is a memorable character, fearless and spunky to the point that she dwarfs larger characters on the screen. Despite the excellence of the English-language cast, adults and children old enough to keep up with the subtitles should seek out the undubbed version.
