Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After 56th Street Crash Patch Temple Terrace, FL --

A Tampa motorcyclist was injured in a crash Monday morning, April 1, at the intersection of 56th Street and Park Ridge Avenue.

Benjamin Frederick Lankford, 26, of 14621 Grenadine Drive, Apt. 1, Tampa was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition following the crash, which occurred at 8:48 a.m., said Temple Terrace Police in a media release.

“Witnesses said Lankford was traveling northbound on 56th Street, weaving in and out of traffic,” according to the release.

Arvid Martin, 60, of 315 Park Ridge Ave., Temple Terrace was turning left in his Jeep Grand Cherokee to go southbound on 56th Street when Lankford’s motorcycle struck his vehicle, police said in the release.

“The motorcycle then struck a telephone pole, throwing Lankford from the bike, police said,” according to the release. “Martin was not injured in the vehicle crash.”

Temple Terrace Patch readers who witnessed the scene said northbound and southbound lanes of 56th Street were closed after the accident and a helicopter landed on 56th Street.

The crash, which is the second motorcycle accident that has occurred on 56th Street in the past two weeks, is under investigation. On March 19, Daniel Ray Baker, 43, of 41520 Merrick Road, Zephyrhills was killed when he apparently lost control of his 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and crashed just south of the intersection at Fowler Avenue.
