![Caring, charming, strong: Family's tribute to Daniel Spargo-Mabbs]()
This is Croydon -- THE family of a teenager who died after taking ecstasy have paid tribute to him as his funeral takes place today. Former Archbishop Tenison's student Daniel Spargo-Mabbs died on January 20, two days after he collapsed after taking ecstasy for the first time. The 16-year-old's parents, Fiona and Tim Spargo-Mabbs, are setting up a foundation in his name to warn others of the dangers of experimenting with drugs. In a joint statement, the family said today: "He was the loveliest boy. "It is impossible to sum up such an amazing and rich character in just a few words. "Dan was a real individual: funny, passionate, caring, considerate, courageous and outrageous, committed, strong, charming, chatty, witty, quirky, articulate, intelligent, loving, kind, trustworthy, loyal, practical, adventurous, mischievous, cheeky, warm, energetic, silly, political, interesting and interested, humble. "He had a strong sense of justice, was passionate about issues of right and wrong, and he had ambitions to join the army and then to be an English teacher. He loved drama, playing the guitar, playing golf, playing X box and being with his friends." No formal cause of death has yet been given for Daniel, who collapsed at a rave in east London, and police are awaiting the results of further tests. Two men, 18 and 20, have been charged with supplying drugs over the incident and have been remanded in custody ahead of their second court appearance, at Isleworth Crown on April 23. A third man, 19,arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed until a date in late March, pending further investigation. Daniel's funeral cortege passed by his school in Selborne Road at 10am so his school friends and teachers could pay their respects. A private funeral followed, with a Thanksgiving service due to take place this afternoon. Reverend Bridget Shepherd, conducting the services, said: "Dan's family, friends and school will remain in our prayers in the coming weeks and months. "We look forward to supporting the work of the The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation, and hope that it will make a difference to the lives of many young people and their families." The family added: "Emerging as he was as an adult, it was very exciting to see the potential he was displaying for the person we knew he could have become. He engaged everyone he met, and those of us who lived with him have had our lives enriched by his presence in them. "Whilst deeply regretting the years that no longer lie ahead, we can all take comfort from the sixteen years in which he grasped every opportunity to experience as much of life as he could."
